RAIA: Chirag Mahale, Linesh Virnodkar, Sufiya Shaikh and Janhavi Virnodkar won triple crowns each, while Pragya Audi, Astha Poudel, Shaurya Naik and Shane D’Souza won double crowns, at Shuttle Fiesta – the 2023 North Goa District badminton tournament held at Indoor Stadium, Campal, Panjim.
Abhishek Swami and Janhavi Virnodkar clinched the Men’s and Women’s singles titles. In Men’s doubles, Amey Desai and Manav Shetgaonkar emerged champions in a closely fought match, while Gosh Nadaf and Sufiya Shaikh won the Senior Mixed doubles title.
Chirag Mahale emerged victorious in the Junior U-19 singles category. Soham Naik and Sufiya Shaikh secured the U-17 boys’ and girls’ singles titles, respectively, while Shaurya Naik and Sufiya Shaikh triumphed in the U-15 boys’ and girls’ singles competitions.
Linesh Virnodkar and Astha Poudel claimed the U-13 singles titles, and Michael Mare and Pragya Audi were crowned the U-11 boys’ and girls’ singles winners.
The runners-up positions in singles were secured by Neil Punjani Bakshi (U-11 Boys), Kanika Pai Vernekar (U-11 Girls), Aaryan Karpe (U-13 Boys), Pragya Audi (U-13 Girls), Shane D’Souza (U-15 Boys), Saanvi Audi (U-15 Girls), Siddharth Hazra (U-17 Boys), Crisanne D’Sa (U-17 Girls), Siddharth Hazra (U-19 Boys), Gosh Nadaf (Men), and Priyanka Karcal (Women).
In Doubles section, following pairs emerged winners: Aaryan Karpe/Linesh Virnodkar (U-13 Boys), Pragya Audi/Astha Poudel (U-13 Girls), Linesh Virnodkar/Shane D’Souza (U-15 Boys), Saanvi Audi/Crisanne D’Sa (U-15 Girls), Shubham Swami/Shaurya Naik (U-17 Boys), Chirag Mahale /Shane D’Souza (U-19 Boys), Amey Desai/Manav Shetgaokar (Men), Janhavi Virnodkar/ Soumya Deshpande (Women), Isha Borkar/Prajesh Naik (U-15 Mixed), Chirag Mahale/Janhavi Virnodkar (U-19 Mixed) and Gosh Nadaf/Sufiya Shaikh (Senior Mixed).
Runners-up places in doubles events were secured by Niharika Dogra/Fiona Mare (U-13 Girls), Michael Mare/Neil Punjani Bakshi (U-13 Boys), Jadjia Fernandes/Priyanka Karcal (U-15 Girls), Kavish Melvani/Vansh Natekar (U-15 Boys), Aloysius Rodrigues/Jonathan Rego (U-17 Boys), Yash Gokarnkar/Mahesh Kandkura (U-19 Boys), Sadiq Attar/Mrunal Bhatkande (Men), Juhi Punia/ Sakshi Punia (Women), Veer Gokarnkar/Shamika Ankolekar (U-15 Mixed), Sidharth Hazra/ Minoshka Pereira (U-19 Mixed), and Mrunal Bhatkande /Minoshka Pereira (Senior Mixed).
The tournament was organised by Panaji Ganeshotsav Samiti under the aegis of the Goa Badminton Association and was graced by GBA members Sandeep Heble (Secretary), Dr. Deepak Mayenkar (Executive member), Praveen Shenoy (Secretary, Sports Promoter) and Panaji Ganeshotsav Samiti members Artist Nagueshrao Sardesai (President) and Sahil Kamat (Secretary), among others.
