Churchill Bros celebrate AFC Grassroots Day

MARGAO: Around 300 children, youth, veterans and special children (boys and girls) participated in the one-day AFC Grassroots Festival organised by Churchill Brothers Football Club, Goa at Navelim ground, recently.
The one-day programme drew children from Navelim and Assolna GFDC centers, Utorda and Mumbai. They were involved in several simple games, fun activities, and a safety campaign. Talks on respect for opponents, teammates and nutrition for footballer were given by Kennedy D’Silva, Avinash D’Costa and Charlton.
A talk on the ingredients of success was delivered by Anthony Leo Fernandes of GFA in his inaugural address.
Eighty boys and girls in the age group 13-19 years displayed various skills and techniques in six well coordinated stations under the direction of coach Joao Rebello.
Trophies were presented to six outstanding participants.
Fatrade beat Carmona in the 10 team tie-breaker contest for veterans. Fatrade won Rs 10,000 cash prize while Carmona had to be content with Rs 5,000. The event was coordinated by Yuri Ferrao.
Ten special children displayed their abilities as they were involved in a 5v5 competition, followed by a technical display coordinated by coach Samantha.
Valanka Alemao, CEO of Churchill Brothers FC, Goa was the guest of honour while Fr Eremita Coutinho was the chief guest.
