AMEBLIM: A late goal from Nicholas Fernandes helped Churchill Brothers SC beat St Savio SC 3-2 in the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Wednesday.
Nicholas Fernandes scored a brace while Richard Costa scored one goal for the winners. Sanket Jotkar and Jerose Oliveira netted a goal each for the Calangute side.
The I-League side scored as Nicholas Fernandes shot straight into the nets, 1-0. But the Calangute team made it all square two minutes later as Sanket Jotkar played an impressive run from the midfield to score into the post.
On resumption, the Churchill skipper Richard Costa’s shot inches above the post.
However, St Savio SC side took the lead ten minutes into the second half as Jerose Oliveira had an impressive run and shot low into the nets as the ball rolled in from under the Churchill keeper, 2-1.
The red machines made it 2-2 in an end to end encounter as skipper Richard Costa tapped in from close range.
Nicholas Fernandes stepped up his boots and scored a perfect left footer for the Churchill Brothers in the additional time.
