MAPUSA: Churchill Brothers FC Goa registered a hard fought 1-0 win over Sesa Football Academy in the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
Both the teams came into the match with a positive mind set having lost their last league match.
Sesa’s U-20 Omkar Arondekar’s strike from close was blocked by Churchill defender while at the other end a fine header by Churchill’s Myron Mendes off a cross by Yagya Kapoor was blocked by Sesa’s Suraj.
In the 40th minute once again a perfect cross by Churchill’s Yagya Kapoor saw over overlapping Trijoy Dias smartly connect the ball with a delightful header past the helpless keeper Sapam to give his side the lead.
Churchill’s Asif Molla and Sesa’s Vishnu Gosavi were given marching orders by referee Deepraj Sangelkar for exchanging blows on each other three minutes before the end of the regulation time.
Sesa’s keeper Sapam managed to keep the score sheet low as he brought two out of the blue saves by bringing a brave block from substitute Mohammed Shahsad and then in the stoppage time flung to his left and paired the ball to safety off Myron Mendes’ strong left footer from the edge of the box.
