MARGAO: Churchill Bros took up the issue of biased and unfair refereeing in their I-league match against Mohun Bagan yesterday at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda with the AIFF authorities today.

Macario Rodrigues, CEO, stated that video recordings had clearly showed that the first goal scored by Bagan was the result of simulation by Odafe in which the referee had pointed to the spot kick. “It was unfair, more so that our player was not even cautioned by the referee,” he added.

“We were denied a penalty when Opara was brought down in the Bagan area, but the referee ignored it, which only proved that the official was biased, one-sided. The referee was not consistent, fair and impartial in his decisions which obviously favoured the Kolkata team,” stated Macario.

“At this rate, when the supervising officials are killing the game, the only option is may be, even withdraw the team for no fault of ours. It is happening now repeatedly, and it does no good for Indian football. Everyone is complaining against the referees,” he concluded.

Overall, the refereeing was also adversely commented by the spectators and it needed police intervention to control them after the match.
