MARGAO: Churchill Bros Sports Club registered a solitary goal victory over Salgaocar Football Club in the TACA Goa U-20 football league match, at Varca ground, on Tuesday. There was no score in the first session.
In the 10th minute, Salgaocar FC attacked through Naro Hari Shrestha, who fired a powerful grounder but his effort deflected off defender Inezfen Xonzun and was blocked by goalkeeper Swisfren D’Silva.
Subsequently, Churchill Bros had a go but Aldrich Coelho’s dangerous move was foiled by Salgaocar FC defender Samuel D’Costa.
At the half hour mark, Churchill brothers SC came close to scoring but Aldrich ballooned over the cross piece of Salgaocar FC a well connected ball by Manford Rodrigues.
Again Salgaocar FC missed two chances to score in the 41st and 43rd minutes as Myron Borges and Naro Hari Shrestha shot wide respectively.
Churchill Bros SC had the edge over their opponents but were left frustrated in the 46th minute as Aldrich’s header hit the goalpost and went out of play after a cross by Basant Rai.
In the 47th minute, Churchill Brothers SC broke the deadlock through Arjun, who finished neatly off an assist by Aldrich.
Subsequently, Salgaocar FC squandered a glorious opportunity to score in the 57th minute as Naro Hari Shrestha shot over the crosspiece from close range.
When opportunity struck, Myron lacked firepower from hand-shaking distance.
Referee Seby Moraes red carded Churchill Bros SC’s Basant Rai in the 78th minute for dangerous play. He also sent off Naro Hari Shrestha for pushing Basant.
