MAPUSA: Churchill Brothers played a goalless draw with Sesa Football Academy in GFA’s U-20 Taca Goa First Division League match at Duler Stadium, here, Sunday.
The teams provided end-to-end action but failed to create clear chances.
After working into a rhythm, Churchill Bros’ players cried loud in the 15th minute for a penalty when Sesa center-back Myran Pereira clearly handled the ball inside the danger zone but match referee Yeshwant Parab overlooked the incident. Subsequently, at the other end, Olivin Cardozo unleashed a scorching right-footer from close range but his effort was blocked by his striking partner Jaison Vaz.
Thereafter, the away team adopted defensive tactics and allowed their opponents to attack. Just before the break, Olivin’s promising right footer was tipped over for a corner-kick by Churchill custodian Bilal Khan, who then denied Glan Martins’ well taken half volley.
Post resumption, the match settled into a familiar pattern.
Sesa looked aggressive when Gaurav Pednekar move dangerously in the midfield but then the latter’s effort sailed inches over the cross bar. The Sunday crowd longed for the elusive match-winner but it never came.
