MARGAO: Churchill Brothers Football Club, the only Goan Club in the National I-League, will celebrate the AFC Grassroots Day on May 14 at Rosary ground, Navelim from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
According to Valanka Alemao, CEO, Churchill Bros FC the one-day festival will be conducted as per the new guidelines issued by the AIFF, which have been redefined by AFC and include social and health causes and involvement of people with disabilities.
Consequently, it will have slots for children 6-12 years in collaboration with GFDC’s centres from Navelim, Benaulim and Assolna from 10 to 1 p.m.; youth in the 13-19 age group from teams fielded by Churchill Bros in GFA tournaments from 2.30 to 5 p.m.; veterans football 40 plus, five-a-side tie-breaker from 5 p.m., campaign for respect for opponents, teammates, team leaders, referees, parents from 2 to 3 p.m.; girls only event from 11 to 12.30 a.m.; activity for people with disability coordinated by Samantha from 9 to 10 a.m.; talks on social cause – safe driving, health cause talks on exercise, diabetes, preservation of environment and water-conservation, garbage disposal.
The one-day festival is open to all and those interested in participating or organising any recreational or fun activities for children, since the goal is to get children involved in some activity, should contact Avinash Costa (children), Joao Rebello (youth), Francis Yuri Ferrao (tie-breaker), Antonio Mum Fernandes (talks), Kennedy D’Silva or Samantha (disabled). The concluding function will be held at 6 p.m.
