PANJIM: Churchill Brothers FC which has been one of the pillars of India club football since 1988, is reportedly looking to leap over into the Indian Super League in the 2020-21 season.
According to sources, The ISL are said to be planning on expanding the number of matches each side would play in the league stages, in order to align itself with AFC’s regulations.
It is learnt that the Goan club which is owned by Churchill Alemao trying to strike a deal with potential foreign sponsors as they harbour hopes of being a part of Indian football’s premier club competition.
Furthermore it is said the Red Machines may tweak their name to South Goa Churchill Brothers FC, if they manage to acquire the prized spot.
With I-league dying a slow death, many clubs are looking forward to the future prospects of the Indian football.
From the birth of ATK- Mohun Bagan rising out from the merger between Indian’s oldest football club and the Kolkata-based ISL club to the widespread merger rumours regarding the Chennai clubs from the respective leagues, the possibilities of Churchill Brothers looking to rival FC Goa in a derby game could potentionally be on the menu for many football maniacs in the State.
However only time will tell if this wishful thinking will be fulfilled.
