MARGAO: Churchill Brothers Football Club, Goa, kick-off their I-League 2021 campaign against Indian Arrows on Jan 10, 2021 at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Jadavpur.
Due to the prevailing situation caused by the pandemic, all matches will be held in Bengal in a bio bubble with Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata), Kalyani Municipal Stadium (Kalyani) and Kishore Bharati Krirangan (Jadavpur) being the three venues which will host all the matches.
Churchill Brothers have prepared well in all respects and will be serious title-contenders as they work hard to recapture the title, they won previously in 2008-09 and 2012-13. Churchill Brothers were also the runners-up in 2007-09 and 2009-10 while finishing third in 2011-12.
With that in mind, Churchill Brothers roped in the Argentina-born Spanish coach Fernando Varela. The 47-year-old coach previously coached Catalalan CE Tecnofutbol before joining Gokulam FC.
“His expertise will surely help us to aim high for glory this season despite the tough conditions due to the prevailing Covid-19. It is great to see Fernando back in India after his experience with Gokulam and we expect an excellent start,” Said Churchill Alemao, President of Churchill Brothers FC.
Fernando is delighted to be back in India and was confident that with his previous experience in the I-league, he could mould the team into a winning combination.
“We have signed four foreigners. Midfielder Armand Bazie of Ivory Coast has been roped in from Real Kashmir. Lebanon stopper Hamza lends a lot of solidity to our defence. Of course scoring goals is what matters apart from not conceding any. As such, our attack has been bolstered by the inclusion of Clayvin J Z Bernandez of Honduras and Luca Majcen of Slovenia,” added Alemao.
“To sum it all up, I must say that we have a very promising team this year. I have full faith and confidence in the boys that they will give their best, make Churchill Brothers champions again and bring the title back to Goa,” said Churchill Alemao.
