MAPUSA: Churchill Brothers FC edged past Sesa FA 2-1 to halt the rival’s winning run in the Goa Professional League match played at Sirsaim ground, on Thursday.
Sesa’s FA with 27 points and Churchill Brothers with 17 points started aggressively but Red Machine drew the first blood in the 29th minute through a stinging 25-yard free kick which deflected off Sesa FA’s defender to find the ball enter the goal.
In the 88th minute of play, Sesa FA’s Joshua D’Silva was at the right place at the right time to settle the ball past Churchill Bros goalkeeper Subhajit Bhattacharjee to make it 1-1. When it looked the teams were content with a point each, Churchill Brothers’ U-21 Shario Gomes scored the match winning goal in the 95th minute to see Churchill Brothers now with 20 points, while Sesa FA stays with 27 points.
Churchill Brothers’ Shario Gomes received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Kennedy D’Silva, president of Compassion FC.
