vasco: Churchill Brothers scored a flattering 4-0 victory over TRAU (Imphal) in the I-League match played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, this evening. Churchill led 2-0 at the breather.
In a match largely confined to the midfield, Churchill made most of the chances that came with the Argentinian Ricardo finding the net in the 18th minute and Richard Costa heading in a pin point cross from the speedy Anil Gaonkar in the 33rd minute. Churchill should have added to their tally five minutes later but Ricardo fumbled with only the goalkeeper to beat, shooting wide.
The visitors began the second half on a dominant note with the blond haired Bidyananda controlling the midfield but the prodigality of their strikers and the sturdy Churchill defence led by Emiliano ensured that there would be no drama of a rally. Much against the run of play, Churchill won a penalty in the 69th minute when TRAU’s Sapam Meitei handled the ball inside the box and Louis Ogana’s delectable spot kick beat Md Rafique in the TRAU goal.
Churchill effectively killed the match with a fine goal from a set piece, when Ralte floated a perfect free kick for Emiliano who met the cross with a rasping left footed drive which beat Md Rafique all ends up.
