Goans Hockey president, Churchill Alemao has spelt out various plans to rejuvenate the sport at a press conference here on Friday.
The PWD Minister said: “I would like hockey to be included as a sport in every school in Goa as well as in the villages. Not long ago, India were a dominant country in hockey but today we are struggling to keep up pace with western countries.”
Speaking further, Alemao disclosed: “I will try my best to impress the Chief Minister in allotting the artificial turf to Fatorda and Peddem in Mapusa. If we need to develop the game it is necessary to have artificial turf. We also need to get modern equipment.”
Noted TV commentator and advisor to IHA, Anupam Gulati stated: “Goa has produced household names in hockey and I am confident that under the leadership of Alemao the past can be revived. Though Goa has excelled in soccer, I am sure hockey will soon regain its lost ground.”
General Secretary Farrel Furtado outlined various plans for Goans Hockey.
