CM assures to implement pending sports schemes

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today assured that the government will implement the pending sports financial schemes to encourage talented sportspersons to participate in the national and international competitions.
Parsekar was speaking at the Sports Geno Awards presentation jointly organized by Sports Journalists Association of Goa and Geno Pharmaceuticals in the city hotel.
Complimenting the recipients, Parsekar informed that the government will workout on more schemes for talented sportsmen and sportswomen in the State and added that by encouraging the budding players it will help to spot the talents.
On the occasion, Yash Fadte (squash) and Anura Prabhudesai (badminton) were presented the Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman awards.
Other recipients are: Nitish Belurkar (chess) Best Upcoming Sportsman, Lifa Gama (football) Best Upcoming Sportswoman, Paresh Kamat (Goa Athletic Association) Best Sports Organizer, Nilesh Naik (tennis ball cricket) Best Coach, Goa-India Football Team Best Team, St. Xavier College, Mapusa Best College.
Shikha Pandey, international women cricket player and Maria Rebello, international women football referee were honoured with special appreciation awards.
Michael Sequeira, sports reporter with Press Trust of India was also honoured for his contribution in sports journalism.
Earlier, Dilip Salgaocar, chairman and managing director, Geno Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd, who grace the function, said that his sole aim was to encourage sportspersons from Goa with good track record in different fields and encourage them to continue good work in their particular fields at both national and international levels.
He further said sponsors find it difficult to accept request from each and every parent for sponsoring their children and urged the government to come out with more schemes.
President of Sports Journalists Association of Goa Sudhkar Naik welcomed while General Secretary Kishor Petkar proposed the vote of thanks.
