CM visits Nehru Stadium to see extension work progress

Deadline to hand over the stadium to FIFA is July 31

FATORDA: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar visited the Nehru Stadium at Fatorda on Sunday morning to check on the progress of ongoing stadium work for the preparations of forthcoming AFC Cup and FIFA U-17 World Cup. 
Not satisfied with the pace of work, Parseker directed the officials and the contractor to wok round the clock to complete the extension work as soon as possible. The deadline to hand over the stadium to FIFA is July 31.
Additional changing, referees, medical rooms and media arena are under construction for which the government has spent around Rs 5 crore.
The floodlights will also be upgraded as per the FIFA requirements.
Chief Engineer, Sports Authority of Goa, J.N.Chimbulkar promised that the work will be completed before the schedule time.
He said, “The chief minister intends to pay more visits to the stadium as he wants to remain committed of his assurance to the FIFA.”
The sports minister also visited the stadium last week and gave similar instructions,” he added.
“The FIFA officials visited once every month to check on the progress of the work for the last six months,” Chimbulkar told mediapersons.
Others present were Deepak Lotlikar, assistant Engineer, SAG and Executive Director, SAG, Govind Jaiswal.
