VERNA: Compassion FC defeated Churchill Brothers 7-0 in the last league match of the Khelo India Girls Under-17 football tournament organised by the GFA at the Fr Agnel’s Ashram ground at Verna.
With the victory Compassion won six of their games and secured 20 points in the 8 matches double leg league. Churchill has two more games to be played.
The game started with Fatima Braganza scoring the first goal in the second minute of play due to a faulty collection by the goalkeeper Sanchia. The goal came as a big surprise to the Churchill team as the two teams had played a three each draw in their first leg encounter.
It was Sadana who scored two goals in the 32nd and 33rd minute.
At half time the 3-0 lead looked like the Compassion FC team would take complete control of the game.
But with some pep talk by the Churchill coach during the break it looked that they would give a difficult time for the team comprising mostly of underprivileged girls of Compassion FC some tough moments.
However, in the 52nd minute their main defender pulled Fatima from scoring a certain goal and rightly received a red card.
The resultant free kick was beautifully put into the net by skipper Riya Patre and then it was no looking back for the Compassion team.
Later a hat trick of goals came from Fatima Braganza in the 63rd, 77th ( penalty) and 90th minute.
With it came the end of the match with Fatima having four goals to her credit.
