Compassion FC emerge U-14 champs

MAPUSA: Compassion Football Club had an easy outing as they routed FC Goa 8-0 in the finals of GFA’s Under-14 girls football tournament at Duler stadium, here on Wednesday.

The highlight of the match was Pearl Fernandes’ seven goals blitz which earned her the best player of finals award. She scored four in the first session and three after the break. Moncy Vaz completed the rojut.

Pearl Fernandes stole the limelight displaying brilliant foot work, ball control, dribbling skills which outsmarted the rival stopper backs Shrisha and Amie Ferrao who failed to contain Pearl.

Pearl could have added a few more had it not been for goalkeeper Sara Madalli who thwarted the striker on three occasions.

Caitan Fernandes, GFA president was the chief guest. He alongwith senior vice-president Anthony Pango and other executive committee members gave away the trophies and other prizes.

Compassion bagged Rs.15,000 plus trophy, while FC Goa had to be content with Rs.10,000 and the trophy.

Following individual prizes were awarded:

Best disciplined team: Goan Warriors FC.

 Best performing team: Union of Chinchinim Villagers. 

Best defender: Shreya Karbotkar (Goan Warriors FC).

Best goalkeeper: Sara Madalli (FC Goa). Best striker: Pearl Fernandes (Compassion FC). Player of the tournament: Valaina Fernandes ( Union of Chinchinim Villagers)

Player-of-the match: Pearl Fernandes (Compassion FC).
