MAJORDA: Cortalim Villagers grounded Cuncolim Union 3-1 to move into the semi- finals of the 27th St Rock’s Super Soccer in memory of Urbano Gonsalves, organized by St Rock’s Youth club, Catala-Majorda, at St Rock’s ground, here, on Saturday. They led 1-0 at half time.
Daulat Dessai of Cuncolim Union had the first go in the fourth minute but defender Rozvon Gama tackled his move of a fine through pass by Deepak Velip.
Thereafter, Clinton Fernandes of Cortalim Villagers ballooned over the crossbar.
Subsequently, Mekieshan Gama broke the deadlock for Cortalim Villagers with his left footer that crashed into the nets of Cuncolim Union of an assist by Clinton Fernandes. Cortalim Villagers further increased their lead through Clinton Fernandes’ grounder in the 17th minute.
Cuncolim Union scored through Daulat Dessai’s half volley in the 19th minute.
Crossing over, Cortalim Villagers were all charged up but Clinton Fernandes shot wide on two occasions in the 32th and 34th minutes.
Cortalim Villagers further increased their lead through Clinton Fernandes with a close range shot of a supply by Mekieshan Gama. Daulat Dessai’s long ranger for Cuncolim Union in the 48th minute should have found the back of the net but Cortalim goalkeeper John Vaz came up with a timely block.
