CURTORIM: Cumborda emerged champions of the 3rd Jose Franky Memorial inter-ward football tournament, organised by Sporting Club virabhat-Curtorim, defeating Novo Vaddo 1-0, at St Alex church ground, Curtorim, recently.
In an evenly poised battle, both the team’s showed attacking intent and Novo Vaddo sounded the warning when striker Milagres Fernandes unleashed a shot which was well blocked by Cumborda goalkeeper Johnson Bogot. In second half Milagres Fernandes and Nevil Fernandes missed easy chances for Novo Vaddo. Cumborda scored the all important goal in 40th minute from a penalty kick after Novo Vaddo defender Myson Fernandes handled the ball inside the penalty area. Cumborda Myron Fernandes scored the goal. Novo vaddo tried their best to equalise but Cumborda defenders Welson and Lisbon stood tall till end of the match.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco was the chief guest and Curtorim sarpanch Rupesh Naik was guest of honour and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up.
