MAPUSA: Cunchelim SC registered a deserving 2-1 win over Peddem Bomm Sports Club to enter the quarter-finals of the Anjuna Gymkhana Cup, organised by Anjuna Gymkhana and played at Anjuna Gymkhana ground, Anjuna on Thursday.
In the 18th minute, Cuchelim’s Jolan Fernandes, on controlling a pass from Sameer, placed the ball into the far corner of the goal, 1-0.
Peddem Bomm were awarded a penalty in the 24th minute when a Cunchelim defender handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee had no hesitation to point to the spot. Melvin stepped forward and converted to make it 1-1.
In the 30th minute, Jolan Fernandes netted his brace to make it 2-1.
On crossing ends, in a fast paced encounter, Peddem Bomm went all out in search of the equaliser, but failed to find the back of the nets.
