Cunchelim SC, Milagres SC split points

MAPUSA: Cunchelim Sports Club and Milagres Sport Club played a 0-0 draw to split points in the GFA’s Second Division League, organised by GFA, played at Duler Stadium, here on Monday.
In a keen tussle with both the teams looking to qualify for the next stage of the league failed in finding the all-important goal.
Cunchelim had the first attempt in the 33rd minute when Rohan Kamble’s long ranger was brilliantly stopped by the Milagres keeper Soma Korgaonkar.
A minute before the breather, Cunchelim’s Nayan Virnodkar after playing a neat one two with Rohan Kamble saw his shot hit the side netting from close range.
Cunchelim keeper Siraj Banaulikar came to his side’s rescue by stopping Milagres’ Lloyd Cardozo’s cracking shot from just outside the box in entering the net.
On resumption of second half, both the keepers were kept on their foot as they were bombarded with constant attacks as their teams went in search for the decisive goal.
In the very first minute of the second half, Milagres’ Lesten Martins was denied in quick succession by keeper Siraj and then by Santosh Pawar in a goalmouth melee.
Lesten Martins was once again denied when his smart header which was travelling in was pushed out for a corner by the diving Cunchelim keeper Siraj.
Milagres keeper Soma was also called into action as he brought up two saves in quick succession to prevent Yallappa Satyaappago from putting Cunchelim ahead.
Schubert Colaco almost found the target for Milagres but his power packed 40-yard shot hit the post to the disbelief of the huge supporters.
In the 68th minute, Cunchelim’s Ganesh was unlucky when his placement from a cross by Rohan hit the defender’s leg and went out for a corner.
Meanwhile at Ambelim ground, Varca Sports Club recorded a fluent 4-2 win over Mandopa Sports Club.
Aaron Rodrigues scored the first for Varca in the 10th minute but Mandopa came back strongly and levelled terms through Maxton Costa in the 25th minute.
They soon took the lead in the 35th minute through Jason Martins, as they led 2-1 at the break.
Crossing over, it was all Varca story as the side scored three goals to register a comeback and a crucial win.
Robbinson Colaco made it all square in the 57th minute before Reeve D’Costa gave them the lead in the 65th minute.
A single goal lead is never safe and thus Varca kept pressing and successfully doubled the lead in the 68th minute through Robbinson, who completed his brace.
