MAPUSA: Cunchelim Sports Club got the better of Assonora United 2-0 in the GFA’s 2nd Division league match, at Poriat ground, on Saturday.
In a keen tussle where both the teams needed a win to move into the play-off where both were locked goalless at the end of first half with the ball was mostly confined to the midfield.
Crossing over, Cunchelim went ahead in the third minute when Rohan Kamble got hold off a pass and finished clinically.
Minutes later, Cunchelim’s Yallappa Satyappago who was well positioned saw his feeble shot cause no problem to the Assonora keeper.
Cunchelim kept squandering chances, this time Ganesh with an open goal shot wide after a miss communication saw ghe Assonora keeper Chandan and defender Sidhan collide with each other.
However in the 83rd minute, Cunchelim sealed the match when Som Shekhar dangerous ball in Assonora danger box found Ganesh who beat the onrushing keeper Chandan and crossed it to Yallapa who made no mistake with his placement to make it 2-0
At Duler Stadium, St. Anthony’s Sports Club Marna drubbed Pilerne Sport Club 4-1.
Vipul Pednekar after controlling a pass from Gopal Shirodkar put Marna ahead in the 28th minute by cleverly chipping the ball over the advanced Plierne keeper.
Changing ends, Marna were ruthless as they scored three more goals.
Kashiram made it 2-0 in the 58th minute with a neat placement after a neat build up between Sangam and Siddhant.
Siddhant also got his name on the scoresheet for Cunchelim with a fierce shot which had no answer to the keeper to make it 3-0.
Pilerne despite being reduced to 10-men after the sending off of Alrich DeSouza for using foul language saw Jesley Baptista find the net to reduce the margin to 3-1
However, Anslem got the fourth goal for Marna to complete the rout.
In the GFA U-14 league match played at Taleigao ground, Ponda Footballers and Portias Sporting Club played out a 2-2 draw.
