PANJIM: Cuncolim Union scored a hard fought 6-4 victory via the tie-breaker over Verna Sports Club to storm into the quarter-finals of V Deluxe Lourdes Festival Cup, organised by United Club of Utorda, at SAG ground, Utorda.
For the third consecutive match, the tie-breaker had to be resorted to break the deadlock after the regulation time ended in a 1-1 draw.
While the exchanges were fairly even in the first half, Cuncolim made the most of a penalty awarded by referee Shaikh Aboo, who pointed to the dreaded spot after Darryl Gama brought down a Cuncolim forward in the box. Beston Colaco beat the Cuncolim keeper with a neatly taken penalty.
The second half saw Verna dominating and their efforts finally bore fruit in the injury
time when Richard scored the equalizer.
But they could not carry their good fortune into the tie-breaker wherein Myron Fernandes, Rosario Carvalho, Beston Colaco, Vijay Manoskar, Noveron Fernandes scored for Cuncolim while Vijay Rego, Shawn Pereira, Basilio Rego converted for Verna.
