Cuncolim enter final

MARGAO: Cuncolim Union prevailed over Chandor Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker to march into the final of Mc Dowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup South Goa inter-village football tournament, organized by Enfermos Sports Club, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.

MARGAO: Cuncolim Union prevailed over Chandor Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker to march into the final of Mc Dowell’s No. 1 Yaari Premier Cup South Goa inter-village football tournament, organized by Enfermos Sports Club, at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Sunday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
The teams displayed attacking brand of soccer and kept the Sunday crowds on their toes. As the match progressed, Cuncolim Union took over control and Nielsh Velip slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot, 1-0.
Down by a goal, Chandor Club intensified their attacks but they were thwarted by rival defenders with neat tackles.
Cuncolim Union had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards were guilty of misfiring from close range.
Post resumption, the teams showed urgency and had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards misfired from close range.
Midway in the second session, Chandor Club raised the vision and their forwards fired sorties but goalkeepers proved equal to the task. The equalizer came in the 40th minute when Sunny Fernandes bulged the net to put his team on equal terms.
In the penalty shoot-out, Adney Fernandes, Jeromio Fernandes and Valky Fernandes converted for Cuncolim Union while Cruz Gomes and Jaison Dias found the mark for Chandor Club.
Cuncolim Union will meet Parish Youth, Nuvem in the final on December 28.
