MARGAO: Cuncolim Union edged past Uguem Rising Club, Sanguem 5-3 via the tie-breaker to storm into the semi-finals of all-Goa Eslinda Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Navelim Villagers Union, at Sinquetim ground, Navelim, Friday.
There was no score at lemon break.
Both the teams started the game on cautious note as the match progressed Cuncolim took control but failed to beat the rival goalkeeper due to inept shooting by their forwards.
After brief lull, Uguem called the shots against the rival citadel but their forwards were erratic after reaching the rival danger zone.
Post resumption, the teams piled on the pressure but without success as the goalkeepers were rock solid under the bar.
At the end of full time the score sheet read 0-0.
In the ensuing penalty shoot out, Adney Fernandes, Rosario Carvalho, Belson Colaco, Clifford Fernandes and Krishna Shirodkar were on target for Cuncolim Union while Cleto Fernandes, Alfred Fernandes and Aruleio Fernandes scored for Uguem.
