POVASAO-CURTORIM: Cuncolim Union edged past Navelim Villagers Union 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 31st Curtorim Panchayat Cup, organised by Curtorim Gymkhana, at DSYA ground, on Friday.
Cuncolim Union scored the first goal through Denvil Fernandes after dribbling past a couple of Navelim defenders and shot into goal giving no chance to Navelim keeper to make it 1-0 in the 16th minute.
Three minutes, Navelim could have equalised but Navelim’s Frenden Pires’ header hit the Cuncolim cross bar and went out of play.
In second half, Cuncolim scored the second goal in 40th minute through Bharat Gaonkar to make it 2-0.
Thereafter, Navelim pulled a goal back through Clinton Niasso off a penalty kick in the 42nd minute to make it 1-2.
Navelim tried their best but Cuncolim defenders defended well till the final whistle.
The match ended 2-1 in favour of Cuncolim Union.
Cuncolim Union’s Denvil Fernandes was awarded the man-of-the-match by Derrick Fernandes (Executive member Curtorim Gymkhana).
