NAVELIM: Cuncolim Union defeated SCC Cavelossim 6-5 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-final of the Late Jose Bento Furtado Memorial trophy football match, played at Rosary ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
Krishna Shirodkar of Cuncolim sent in a long ball to Valky Fernades but failed to connect the ball inside the Cavelossim box in the 4th minute.
This could have been the best scoring chance for Alex Rodrigues of Cavelossim who shot blindly over the cross bar of Cuncolim in the 6th minute after a fine pass off Raju Cardozo.
It was Valerio Fernandes of Cavelossim who netted the first goal of the match with a tap on the ball in the 8th minute off a Darren Estebeiro assist. As the match progressed, Cuncolim almost found the net but a shot from Valky Fernandes was brought to his dismay when Myshawn Lobo the lanky defender of Cavelossim rose high who headed the ball to safety from the Cavelossim goaline in the 12th minute.
A tricky move by Cuncolim’s Edny Fernandes to Frazier Fernandes helped their side to draw level in the 38th minute. The score was 1-1 at regulation time.
In the tie-breaker, Cuncolim Union netted through Krishna Shirodkar, Edney Fernandes, Beston Colaco, Bharat Gaonkar and Nilesh Velip while for SCC Cavelossim Alex Rodrigues, Joyson Estebeiro. Allan Fernandes and Edelbert D’Silva scored.
