BENAULIM: Cuncolim Union came from behind to beat United Boys, Dando-Colva 2-1 and enter the quarter-finals of the 11th Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup, at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Friday.
Cuncolim got the first opportunity in the 19th minute but striker Mithun Carvalho’s right foot shot struck the past. Colva also got a chance but striker Vicky failed from close range.
Post resumption, Colva surged ahead in the 45th minute when substitute striker Baptist sent in a through ball to Francis who ran past Cuncolim defender Ednes to shoot past rival goalkeeper Vicky Naik.
Cuncolim regrouped and got the equaliser 10 minutes later when Bharat Gaonkar sent in a long pass inside the box for striker Daulat Desai to head past the Colva goalkeeper Valerian D’Sa.
Boosted by the equaliser, Cuncolim pressed forward and striker Daulat Desai after receiving a fine pass from Clifton Fernandes slotted past the Colva goalkeeper to score the match-winner with two minutes remaining for the final whistle.
