FATORDA: Cuncolim Union got the better of Maina SC 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the semi-finals of the 18th Bro Eulailo Vaz Memorial football tournament organised by Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and played at Fatorda ground, on Friday.
In the 2nd minute, Cuncolim Union defender Krishna Shirodkar sent in a long ball to Micky Fernandes who shot from close range but the shot hit the Maina crossbar.
In the 4th minute, Maina’s Clive Colaco’s long range shot hit the upright of Cuncolim crossbar and went out of play. Micky Fernandes of Cuncolim Union netted the first goal from a free kick in the 20th minute.
The Maina team didn’t waste time and equalised in the 26th minute through Joy Hilario’s placement shot.
Micky Fernandes scored again with a solo grounder in the 28th minute for the Cuncolim side to make it 2-1.In the second half, Maina came from behind through Seratario Monteiro’s snap shot in the 48th minute.
In the tie-breaker, Cuncolim Union proved to be better shooters.
