Cuncolim United Higher Secondary thrashed Adarsh Higher Secondary, Vazangal-Shiroda 4-0 to enter the finals of Zone IV inter-higher secondary football tournament at Tilamol Panchayat ground, Quepem on Wednesday. There was no score at half time.
Crossing over, Cuncolim United were aggressive and called the shot at regular intervals at the rival citadel.
Sedroy Coutinho’s free kick outside the box gave no chance to the rival goalkeeper. The goal boosted the morale of Cuncolim as they intensified the attacks that unsettled the rival defence. Faizan Khan doubled the lead with a long ranger.
After taking a 2-0 cushion, Cuncolim slackened their pace but did allow their opponents to strike the rhythm. Flinton Correia headed in off a lobby from Faizan Khan in the 50th minute. Stanley Silva drove the last nail into Adarsh coffin in the 55th minute.
In the other semi-final, St Alex Higher Secondary, Curtorim mauled Guardian Angel Higher Secondary, Curchorem 5-0. Both teams displayed attacking football but goals eluded them despite calling the shots.
After a barren first half, St Alex were a transformed side and attacked the rival citadel in waves. St Alex rocked the Guardian Angel citadel in the 40th minute when Cleston Fernandes’ stiff grounder beat the rival goalkeeper hands down.
Thereafter it was a one-way traffic for St Alex as their opponents surrendered their challenge meekly with Dasley Fernandes striking  twice to give them a comfortable lead. Cleston, who was on song scored a brace. Ryan Fernandes completed the rout with a snap shot late in the second half.
