BENAULIM: Curtorim Veterans blanked Chinchinim Veterans 2-0 to win the 1st Monti Trophy Veterans Soccer tournament, organised by United Boys of Monti, Benaulim, at Monti ground, Benaulim on Sunday.
Jose Carvalho scored a brace for the winners.
Curtorim dominated the play from the first minute as they took control of the match and scored in the 14th minute from a spot kick when Seby Vaz was brought down inside the box and referee had no hesitation in pointing at the spot which was converted by Jose Carvalho.
After change of ends, Chinchinim tried hard to equalise but were not able to break down tough Curtorim defence. And midway through second half Curtorim scored the second goal through Jose Carvalho whose deft placement gave no chance to rival keeper. Former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao was the chief guest for the final and he gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up.
The winners were awarded Rs 35,000 while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 30,000.
