MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana hammered Ambelim Sports Club 3-1 to cruise into the final of all-Goa 17th Fr Gervasio Pinto memorial inter-village football tournament, organized by Guardian Angel Sports Club, Curchorem, at Figureido ground, Pontemol- Curchorem, on Thursday. Curtorim Gymkhana led 1-0 at the breather.
Curtorim Gymkhana held upper hand in both the sessions and pushed their opponents on the back-foot. They found the breakthrough midway when striker Joaquim Carvalho’s well-executed free-kick eluded the rival goalkeeper.
Stung by the setback, Ambelim Sports Club looked jaded and failed to function as a cohesive unit.
Post resumption, Curtorim Gymkhana continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges and doubled the lead when Tony Dias punished the rival defence with a clinical finish.
Spurred by the 2-0 cushion, Curtorim Gymkhana intensified their attacks and Steven Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
With time running out, striker Samson Fernandes scored the consolation goal.
Curtorim Gymkhana will now meet Navelim Villagers Union in the final on November 16.
