Curtorim Gym upset Cuncolim

MARGAO: Curtorim Gymkhana edged past Cuncolim Union 5-4 via the tie-breaker to cruise into the quarter-finals of all-Goa 41st Chandor Seamen Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Chandor Club, at Chandor ground, on Wednesday. Curtorim Gymkhana were trailing by a goal at half time.

Cuncolim Union put a better display in the opening sessions with their midfielders and forwards working in tandem to put the rival defence under pressure. They surged ahead in the 10th minute when striker Eldrich D’Souza bulged the net from close.
Spurred by the early lead, Cuncolim Union raised the tempo and tormented the rival defence with sporadic raids.
Cuncolim Union created good openings but their strikers could not convert.
After the break, Cuncolim Union continued to enjoy the better ball possession and had couple of chances but their forwards squandered from close range.
However, Curtorim Gymkhana went all-out and succeeded in levelling the scores, ten minutes before the long whistle after Nelson Fernandes punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
In the penalty shoot-out, Nelson Fernandes, Manuel Costa, Savio Fernandes and Roy Albuquerque converted with calm for Curtorim Gymkhana while Treyson Costa, Cliffton Dias, and Joshua Rodrigues did well and were on target for Cuncolim Union.
