Curtorim Gym victorious

The winners scored the all-important goal in the very sixth minute through a penalty coolly converted by Milagres

PANJIM: Curtorim Gymkhana got the better of St Anthony Sports Club, Assolda 1-0 in the final of 38th St Joseph festival football, organized by Dramapur Sports Club, at Dramapur football ground, recently. 
Curtorim Gymkhana surged into the lead in the very sixth minute through Milagres Fernandes. The Curtorim lads depended more on short passes throughout the game and used it to good effect to defend their early lead.
St Anthony were awarded a penalty in the 17th minute after a rough tackle on their player but squandered a golden opportunity to equalize after a powerful grounder by Ivan Pinto from the resultant spot-kick was saved by the Curtorim goalkeeper. 
Former Chief Minister of Goa, Luizinho Faleiro was the chief guest. Ex-MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues presided over the function. 
Fr Conceicao Silva, parish priest of Taleigao, Edwin Cardozo, Zilla Panchayat member of Navelim; Bernardo Rebello were the guests of honours while Agostinho D’Costa, Sarpanch of  Dramapur-Sirlim Panchayat was a special invitee.
John Alfonso (Curtorim) was adjudged best goalkeeper of the final while Savio Fernandes (Curtorim) was chosen the best defender.
Custodio Fernandes (Assolda) was declared the best player in midfield. The only goalscorer of the final, Miagres Fernandes (Curtorim) was undoubtedly selected to be awarded as the best forward of the match. Besides, Razor Braganza (Rossman Cruz) deservedly won the player of the tournament award while Rossman Cruz, Nagoa, Verna was adjudged the best disciplined team.
The President of Dramapur SC, Devanand Pereira welcomed. Secretary Seby Soares compered. He later proposed the vote of thanks.
