VASCO: Curtorim Gymkhana defeated St Anthony Sports Club, Marna-Siolim 3-1 to storm into the quarter-finals of the 43rd Bandodkar Memorial football tournament played at MPT ground, Baina-Vasco, on Friday.
At lemon break, St Anthony Sports Club and Curtorim Gymkhana were held to a 1-1 draw.
Last year’s runners-up St Anthony Sports Club had the first look at the rival goal in the 25th minute with Dalesh Pednekar netting in off a pass by Shahil Pomburkar.
But Curtorim Gymkhana soon equalized in the 27th minute with the boots of Joseph Gomes, who was fed by Melvin Fernandes.
Post resumption, Melvin doubled the lead in the 50th minute after receiving a pass from Nelson Fernandes to make it 2-1 in favour of Curtorim Gymkhana.
Immediately, Melvin again netted home in the 53rd minute to complete his brace. Nelson Fernandes assisted.
St Anthony Sports Club tried their best to reduce the deficit but could not do so as the Curtorim Gymkhana players curtailed their advances.
