RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana defeated Dramapur Sports Club 3-1 to emerge champs in 50th Custodio memorial football tournament organized by Raia Sporting Club at Raia Panchayat ground, Saturday. The teams were tied 1-1 at the breather.
Jovel Martins for Curtorim Gymkhana and Leslie Costa for Dramapur SC missed easy scoring chances in the first session. Afileo Fernandes opened the scoring for Curtorim Gymkhana in the 30th minute. Six minutes later, Franky Oliveira equalized following a spot kick conversion for Dramapur SC.
Substitute Joy Hilario scored the second goal for Curtorim Gymkhana in the 56th minute. James Fernandes made the issue safe scoring the third goal in the 67th minute.
Curtorim Gymkhana were richer by Rs 1,00,000 plus a trophy. Dramapur Sports Club had to be content with Rs 70,000 and a trophy.
Following individual prizes were awarded: First goal of the final and highest scorer of tournament – Afileo Fernandes (Curtorim Gymkhana). Best goalkeeper of final – Sunny Fernandes (Dramapur SC). Best defender of final – Mario Mascarenhas (Curtorim Gymkhana). Best midfielder of final- Hayden Cardozo (Dramapur SC). Best forward of final – Denil Rebello (Dramapur SC). Man-of-the final – James Fernandes (Curtorim Gymkhana). Best disciplined team- Peddem Bomm SC.
MP Francisco Sardinha was chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Eduardo Faleiro, ex-Union Minister for State, PCC President Amit Patkar and Parish Priest of OL of Snow’s Church Raia, Fr Januario D’Costa.
