VARCA: Curtorim Veterans edged past Vasco Veterans 2-1 via the tie-breaker to lift the 1st All Goa Clement Memorial Veterans football tournament organised by Youth of Fatrade, at Varca football ground, on Sunday .
At half time both the teams were goalless.
A cross from Vishant Pednekar was converted by Santan Colaco with a powerful drive which was well saved by Curtorim keeper Glorio D’Mello. Curtorim’s Jameson Noronha missed a open chance when he only had to beat the Vasco keeper John Fernandes shot wide but in the second half, both the teams played attacking football but failed to score as their repestive defence-lines stood like rocks.
In the tie-breaker, Jameson Noronha and Alfred Fernandes scored for Curtorim Veterans while only Vishant Pednekar scored for Vasco Veterans.
Vasco’s Uday Naik was adjudged as the man-of-the-match.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 the runners-up Rs 30,000 plus trophies.
Kennedy Alemao, (ex-Zilla Parishad) was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Shalini Pereira (Sarpanch of VP Varca) and all the panch members of VP Varca. Socorro Coutinho (ex-Dempo coach),Roy Miranda(ex.player of Varca Sports Club) Rudolf Pimenta (ex MPT player) Ramiro Sales (Varca),Simon Pereira (Orlim), Benedito Fernandes (ex-Fatrade player), Pobre Menezes (Assolda), Antoneta Fernandes (PE teacher of St Mary High School)Diniz Sardinha(President of Curtorim Gymkhana)were also present.
