MAPUSA: Daryl Costa shone in Panjim Footballers Sports Club solitary goal win over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League match organised by Goa Football Association, at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.
With today’s all-important win Panjim Footballers moved to 11 points from 14 matches while Calangute Association remained on seven points from 12 matches. After a goalless first half, Daryl scored the match-winning goal for Panjim Footballers in the 74th minute.
In a midfield control match where few openings were created by either side saw the first chance created in the 32nd minute.
Calangute’s Sachidanand Satelkar getting hold off a long ball from defender Gaurav Vaigankar got the better of defender Kunal Kundaikar and unleashed a fierce left footer which was well kept out by keeper Sherwin Da Cunha.
Minutes before the breather, Sachidanand had another chance of breaking the deadlock for Calangute Association but his firm shot was wide off the mark.
Crossing over, Panjim Footballers showed more urgency and in the very 3rd minute Mahesh Kumar’s well connected shot struck the defender and went out for a corner.
Snedden Rodrigues than had two back-to-back chances of putting the Capital side ahead but was denied by the brilliance of keeper Sanji Bugde in the 60th minute of play.
Panjim Footballers kept raiding their rival’s goal and in the 68th minute Snedden well-measured cross found Daryl inside the penalty box but his shot hit the defender leg and went out for a corner.
Calangute Association who so far withheld the continuous pressure from Panjim Footballers were finally beaten through a master class goal by Darly in the 74th minute, who intelligently lobbed the ball over the onrushing keeper after being fed by Snedden to give full three deserved points to his team.
