RAIA: Cuncolim Union thrashed PY Nuvem 4-1 to storm into the semi-finals of Jaju Memorial Trophy football tournament at St John de Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, Friday.
Nuvem entered the field with only nine players and Cuncolim toyed with their rivals and striker Daulat Dessai netted a brilliant hat-trick while veteran forward Mithun Carvalho also got his name on the score sheet. Inacio Colaco reduced the margin.
Cuncoilim made a brisk start taking full advantage of their numerical superiority and soon went ahead in the 12th minute through striker Daulat who controlled a pass from Meavon Fernandes and slotted past Nicolau Colaco in the Nuvem goal.
Nuvem managed to get on level terms when speedy forward Meselin Baretto was brought down inside the box by rival defender Melvin Fernandes. The resultant spot kick was easily converted by Inacio Colaco.
Nuvem did well to keep the Cuncolim strikers at bay but a minute before half time Daulat outpaced two defenders and essayed an angular shot into the nylons.
In the second session, Cuncolim had more ball possession to wear out the opponents and striker Daulat completed his well deserved hat-trick with a long ranger past makeshift goalkeeper Nicolau in the 52nd minute.
Experienced Mithun Carvalho drove the final nail into the Nuvem coffin with a neat finish five minutes before the end.
