VERNA: Davondem Veterans edged past Chinchinim Veterans 3-2 to lift the Marc Caterers Nuvem trophy, at Old Mardol Verna, recently.
In the fourth minute, Danvodem’s Robert Fernandes sent in a long ball to Mario Fernandes who was prowling into Chinchinim box and took control of the ball foxed the rival defenders and shot from close range to open the account.
Mario Fernandes doubled the lead for Davondem off Robert’s connect in the tenth minute.
As the match progressed, in the 21st minute, Mario Fernandes netted his hat-trick to make it 3-0 for Davondem.
Later, Chinchinim netted a brace through Vishant Pednekar in the 36th and 40th minutes respectively.
With some minutes left for the final whistle, Robert Fernandes along with other defenders of Davondem guarded the fort and prevented the Chinchinim strikers from scoring any goals.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 and runners up had to settle for Rs 20,000 plus trophies.
