Sporting Club of Davorlim beat St Anthony’s Sports Club, Paroda 4-3 to move into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Cayman Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Curtorim Gymkhana at Curtorim ground on Saturday. Davorlim led 1-0 at the breather.
In an evenly fought encounter, chances were far and few with the defences of the teams not allowing the rival attackers much space.
Davorlim surged ahead in the 25th minute when Bruno Costa unleashed a stiff shot which beat the rival goalkeeper.
At the stroke of lemon beak, St Anthony’s nearly found the equaliser but striker Manush Olveira was the culprit as he ballooned over from close range.
Crossing over, St Anthony’s put up a better performance and repeatedly raided the rival citadel but their forwards wasted gilt edged scoring chances.
St Anthony’s piled up tremendous pressure on the rival citadel and their hard work finally bore the fruit in the 47th minute when Boloro Colaco was brought down by Davorlim defender Melwyn Figureido inside the danger zone. Manus Oliveira converted the spot kick to put his team on level terms.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Melwyn Figueiredo, Levinson Figueiredo and William Niasso were on target for Davorlim while Anthony Dias and Pascoal Dias converted for St Anthony’s.
Earlier, Winnie Fernandes, Deputy Sarpanch, Curtorim, was introduced to the teams by Alex Dias, treasurer, Curtorim Gymkhana.
