MARGAO: Sporting Club of Davorlim defeated Verna Sports Club 2-1 to sail into the quarter-finals of All-Goa 24th Super Soccer inter-village tournament organized by United Boys Dando-Colva at St John Baptist ground, Benaulim, Saturday. Davorlim led 1-0 at half time.
Davorlim held the upper hand in the first half with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence under tremendous pressure. Davorlim took the lead in the 12th minute when striker Maclon Colaco picked up the ball from Venson Figueiredo and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stunned by the setback, Verna tried their best to come back into the game but failed to get past the rival defence.
At the other end, Davorlim had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards frittered away from ideal positions.
Crossing over, Davorlim continued in the same vein and troubled the rival defence with raids. Davorlim doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Venson Figueiredo took advantage of the rival goalkeeper lapses.
Stunned by the double blows, Verna went into an attacking mode and reduced the deficit late in the second half when Vijal Rego beat the rival goalkeeper with an adroit placement.
