DONA PAULA: Dayne Coelho was officially crowned champion in the RS:X class at the All India Board Sailing Championship, organised by Goa Yachting Association (GYA) at Hawaii Beach, Dona Paula, on Sunday.
Dayne claimed the championship trophy from Capt Dilip Donde (Retd) — the first Indian to sail around the world solo — who was the chief guest at a small but distinguished ceremony following the races.
In his address to the sailors, Donde congratulated the sailors for their achievements and encouraged them to put in the their best efforts in pursuit of success.
Dayne had to fight every inch of the way, but stayed ahead where it mattered — at the finish line — winning 9 races out of 12, coming second in one. The last day racing threw some surprises in this category when Jerome of the AYN won the second last and Arjun Reddy again of the AYN won the last race of the championship. Dayne Picked up an injury in the second last race and finished 4th and could not compete in the last race.
