DONA PAULA: Dayne Coelho kept up his stunning form to win the Goa State Boardsailing Championship at the Dolphin Adventure Sports Centre at Hawaii Beach, here, on Sunday.
However, he missed making a clean sweep when Raunaq Pai edged ahead of him in lighter winds in the day’s first race. This was the concluding day of the championships, organized by the Goa Yachting Association (GYA) and supported by the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).
Raunaq Pai finished second overall and Russel Lobo was third. In the Women’s category, Katya Coeho kept up her dominance, winning all three races of the day. Rhea Fernandes was second overall. The only surprise of the day was when her younger sister Megan edge her out to come second in the last race of the day. Megan also came third overall.
Beach races were held for the participants of the GYA’s Windsurfing Summer Camp. After a series of elimination races in the morning, the final series of races were held in the afternoon. Kaya Coelho emerged on top, followed by Keona Rajani and Johan Pinto, proving that sailing is a discipline in which women and men can compete at an equal level.
Prizes were given away by chief guest Govind Jaiswal, Executive Director of the Sports Authority of Goa. President of Goa Yachting Association, Cesar Menezes was the guest of honour.
