CHANDOR: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda edged past Curtorim Gymkhana 1-0 to enter into the semi-finals of the 43rd Chandor Seamen Rolling Trophy football tournament organised by Chandor Sports Club, at Chandor ground, on Tuesday.
Both teams played attacking football from the word go.
Curtorim Gymkhana won an early corner kick wherein Stefeno Fernandes headed the ball delivered to him towards the goal however the header was cleared by Roque Borges, defender of Don Bosco in the third minute.
In the 6th minute Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda attacked through Necil Pinto but his scoop shot was saved by keeper Johnson Bhagat of Curtorim Gymkhana.
The 15th minute saw Curtorim Gymkhana’ Anthony Cardozo attack from the right flank and connected to Joel Fernandes but Danny Dias defender of DBO, Fatorda cleared the ball to safety.
DBO, Fatorda’s Crasten Araujo’ header should have recorded his name on the score sheet but was denied by the cross piece in the 38th minute.
Jameson Noronha and Nevil Fernandes worked out a god set piece in the 43rd minute for Curtorim Gym but Nevil’ grounder shot was saved by the keeper, Melcom Pereira of DBO, Fatorda.
In another one to one situation between Anthony Cardozo of Curtorim Gym and Niclau Borges of DBO, Fatorda, Niclau shot wide in the 45th minute.
A defensive lapse of Curtorim Gym in the 47th minute cost them dearly as Francis Andrade of DBO, Fatorda, dribbled past couple of Curtorim Gym defenders and released his high voltage shot which hit the inside goalpost of Curtorim Gym and sailed into the nylons.
Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda will meet SC Davorlim in the semi-final match on September 17.
