PANJIM: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, on the back of outstanding performance by Kayden D’Silva (19 points) and Bradley Barreto (10 points) registered a commanding 37- 22 victory over Don Bosco High School, Panjim, to win the youth boys team title, at the State Youth Basketball Championships, held at Youth Hostel, Miramar on Saturday.
Tanay Saldanha and Joshua Pinheiro were the standout players for the runners up team.
In the girls section, Sharada Mandir High School, Miramar, won the title in a dominating 28-4 win over Sonics. Sarah Hussain (15 points) after her fine performance in the semis was once again the pick of the players for the winning Team.
The two day championship organised by Panjim Basketeers Club in aegis / collaboration with Goa Basketball Association and Youth Hostel, Miramar, was a selection tournament to shortlist probables for the Goa team for the upcoming Youth Nationals to be held in Indore, MP in December.
Sarah Hussain (Girls) and Kayden D’ Silva emerged as Most Valuable Players (MVPs) of the finals as well as of the Championships. Tanay Saldanha was awarded Joint MVP of the Final for his consistent performance for Don Bosco Panjim, while Norah Martins (Sharada Mandir) was awarded MVP for her good play for the Girls winners.
Anant Joshi (Director Youth Hostel), Dr Sandeep Martin Warlikar (Senior Sports Coach and Sports Administrator, SAG), Royston Costa (Vice President, Goa Basketball Association) and Sandeep Heble (Secretary Panjim Basketeers Club) graced the prize distribution.
