MAPUSA: Francis Dadzie made a brilliant start to his stint with Sporting Clube de Goa, giving them a 2-0 win over Santa Cruz Club Cavelossim in the GFA Pro League match, at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Thursday.
The new Ghana signing netted in both the goals in the first session, in the 19th and 41st minute.
Sporting Clube have 11 points from five matches, while Cavelossim stay on 11 points from seven matches.
The winners took the lead in the 19th minute when Cavelossim defender Nevin Pereira dangerously tackled Sporting’s Quan Gomes just meters away from the penalty area. Francis who shouldered the responsibility of the free-kick made no mistake to curl in the ball into the far corner of the Cavelossim nets, 1-0.
Finding themselves down by a goal, Cavelossim made some desperate efforts to get back into the match but first Aaren D’Silva header off Moises D’Sa’s corner flew just over the Sporting horizontal bar, then Cresson Antao’s header off Franzil Negredo’s corner struck the legs of the defender and rolled out and later Melwin Fernandes saw his powerful long range effort sail inches past the Sporting target.
Minutes later, Cavelossim keeper Agnelo came with a breathtaking save to push away Glen Martin’s right footer.
Francis Dadzie once again got into the scoring act, when in the 41st minute he got hold of the ball from Quan Gomes and after weaving his way through the Cavelossim defenders he fired the ball home, 2-0.
On resumption of play, Francis threatened to score his hat-trick in the 65th minute, however his placing strike off Ganesh Thakur spadework failed to make its way into the Cavelossim goal.
Cavelossim keeper Agnelo once again rose to the occasion to come to his sides rescue when he parried Mauvin Borges blistering shot.
Cavelossim tried their level best to claw their way back into action however the Sporting defenders and their keeper proved to be a hard nut to crack.
