PANJIM: Dempo College defeated Fr Agnel College, Pilar by six wickets in the final of the Goa University Inter-Collegiate Women’s Cricket final, at University ground, Taleigao Plateau, on Wednesday.
Fr Agnel College, Pilar batted first and posted 137/7 in 20 overs with contributions from Diksha Parvatkar (12), Bindiya Kavlekar (39 not out) and Sharlet Dias (12) while Farzana Rahi (3/27), Laxmi Sulare (1/31) and Sonali Kankonkar (1/42) were the wicket takers for Dempo.
In reply, the Altinho team chased the target in 16.5 overs with the loss of four wickets.
Leena Gaunso (60), Indira Lamani (14) and Marina Fernandes (17 not out) were the scorers for Dempo while Bindiya Kavlekar (1/14) and Larissa Fernandes (1/34) took one wickets each for Fr Agnel.
Dr Radika Nayak, Principal of Dempo College, Altinho was the chief guest and gave away the prizes. Individual prizes were awarded to Women of the series and Women-of-the-Match: Leena Gaunso of Dempo College while the Best bowler award went to Bindiya Kavlekar of Fr Agnel College, Pilar.
In the first semi-final, Fr Agnel College defeated Vidya Probodhini College, Porvorim by six wickets. Vidya Prabdhini batted first and scored 116 for 8 in 20 overs.
