Dempo Commerce emerge champs

PANJIM: Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Cujira, defeated Government College of Arts and Science, Khandola by 86 runs in the finals of Goa University’s inter-college cricket championship for men at Taleigao ground on Thursday.

Dempo College, put to bat, scored 217/5 in 20 overs.  Anand Tendulkar scored a quickfire 79 off 39 balls and Sagar Vantamuri showed his consistency with the bat too scoring 49 off 26 balls. For Kandola, Prathamesh Kunkalkar claimed 1 for 37, Rishab Gaonkar 1 for 31 and Rishikesh Naik 1 for 11. 

Khandola got a good start with a score of 46/2 in 5 overs. Later on, however, they lost momentum and ended up scoring 131/9 in 20 overs. Major contributions came from Prasad Harle and Prathamesh Sawant with 26 runs off 11 balls and 23 off 10 balls respectively. Sagar Vantamuri took 5 wickets conceding only 22 runs while Mehank Dharwadkar took 1 for 17,  Anand Tendulkar 1 for 24, Abhinandan Thakur 1 for 30.

Following individual prizes were awarded: Best batter – Anand Tendulkar of Dempo College. Best bowler Prasad Harle of  Khandola. Player-of-the tournament – Sagar Vantamuri of Dempo.

 In total 40 teams participated.

Prof Ramrao Surya Wagh, Associate Professor and Program Director, Computer Science of Goa Business School, Goa University, was the chief guest.  Prof. Manoj Kamat, Principal, Dempo College was the guest of honour. In all, 40 teams participated.
