Kapil and Beevan score in the second half to give the Golden Eagles full points

MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club registered an easy 2-0 win over Calangute Association in the Goa Professional League match, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Wednesday.
With Wednesday’s win, Dempo remained on 2nd place with 34 points from 15 outings, while Calangute has 18 points from 15 outings.
Joston Pereira was back in the starting XI for Calangute, while last match scorer Blake Haldankar, goalkeeper Sumit Das and U-20 striker Omkar Satelkar also started for the Beach side which lost to Sporting Clube de Goa in the last match.
Dempo, on the other hand, also had few changes to their side which defeated FC Bardez in the last match as coach Samir Naik named Velito Cruz, Nickson Castanha and Naveen Mendes in the starting XI.
Dempo started the match on the attacking note and made numerous attacks on the opponents but none of their moves were successful to break Calangute’s last line, while Calangute also had a clear-cut chance in the 25th minute when their U-20 forward Omkar was just left with the keeper to beat but the striker shot wide from point-blank range.
A minute before this, Dempo were awarded a free-kick at the 40 yards, which was excellently taken by Velito but Calangute keeper Sumit who made his debut today came up with an excellent save as both the teams entered the dressing room goalless.
Dempo took 15 minutes in the second half to open their account as Kapil Hoble’s stern shot off Beevan D’Mello’s chest pass dropped into the goal making it 1-0 for Dempo.
Six minutes later, Dempo had a chance to double their lead when Shallum Pires found substitute Joaquim Abranches with a head pass but the forward saw his powerful shot miss the target by a whisker.
A few minutes later, another chance went begging as Beevan D’Mello shot the ball into the keeper hands instead of directing in the goal, off Suraj Hadkonkar’s fine cross from the right.
However, in the 82nd minute, Beevan made no mistake to shoot past keeper Sumit from the top of the box, cementing all three points for the Golden Eagles.
The dying minutes saw, Calangute come up with two quick attacks but first, Myron Fernandes shot at  the completely out of position keeper Agnelo instead of chipping it into the empty goal, while in the added time, Josley Dias saw his swift shot brilliantly blocked by keeper Agnelo.
